The Minutewomen furthered their four-match winning streak
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis swept Fairfield 7-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Bay Road Tennis Center. Notably the victory marks the Minutewomen's fourth win in a row and are undefeated at home this season.
UMass decisively claimed the doubles point with wins on courts No. 3 and No. 2. The third doubles duo of Martina Pavissich and Trinity Calinescu claimed a 6-1 victory over the Stags' Lily Malinowski and Anna Neyestani. Soon after, Belle Jonglertrakul and Mariana Campino clinched the doubles point by defeating Maria Gell and Nicolette Loeffler of Fairfield on court No. 2. Ella Faessler and Amelia Tye were at 4-4 before their match went unfinished.
The Minutewomen's dominance continued into singles play, spearheaded by Campino's 6-0, 6-0 win over Gell at No. 4 singles. On court No. 3 Tye posted a 6-0, 6-3 match over Loeffler, while Jonglertrakul clinched the match by way of 6-3, 6-1 win against Neyestani at No. 1 singles.
The final two matches on courts No. 6 and No. 5 went to three-set thrillers, first with Trinity Calinescu's come-from-behind triumph over Malinowski 3-6, 6-1 (10-8) at No. 6 singles. Pavissich closed out the afternoon with an impressive 6-2, 4-6 (10-6) win of her own versus Fairfield's Maeve Cassidy on court No. 5.
Massachusetts has a week off to prepare for another weekend at home to host Army on Saturday, February 15 and St. John's on Sunday, February 16. Both matches are set to begin at 1 p.m. at the Bay Road Tennis Center.
