Massachusetts Tennis Defeats Holy Cross, 6-1

The Minutewomen ready for Fairfield on Sunday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m. at Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis downed Holy Cross, 6-1, on Saturday morning at the Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center.
The Minutewomen secured the doubles point after sweeping all three courts in order. Partners Ella Faessler and Amelia Tye quickly defeated Caroline Carlson and Caroline Fredey of Holy Cross, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, before the duo of Martina Pavissich and Mariana Campino downed Holy Cross' Maddie Hamm and Ahana Nagarkatti, 6-2, at court No. 2. Trinity Calinescu and Owethu Makhanya rounded out the doubles competition at No. 3 with a 6-3 win over Alison Lynn and Ashley Zilora.
In singles play, UMass won on courts No. 2, 4, 1, 3 and 5. Tye finished first with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Holy Cross' Carlson, while Calinescu took down Hamm of the Crusaders, 6-0, 6-0, at court No. 4. Faessler picked up a singles point at No. 1 with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Holy Cross' Nagarakatti, as Pavissich grabbed her own point after defeating the Crusaders' Zilora, 6-1, 6-0. Makhanya completed the match with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Fredey of Holy Cross at No. 5 singles.
Holy Cross won the point at No. 6 singles by default.
Massachusetts closes out the weekend with an 11 a.m. match against Fairfield on Sunday, February 2, at the Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center.
