Hickey Earns MVC Freshman Of The Week Honors

Liam Hickey received his first career weekly accolade after a stellar performance last week.
AMHERST, Mass. – Rookie swimmer Liam Hickey of the University of Massachusetts men's swim and dive team, tabbed the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league on Wednesday.
As the Minutemen finished first over Colgate and Le Moyne at the Justin Jennings Invitational this past weekend, Hickey secured the gold medal in two individual events. In the 100 backstroke, he sat atop the podium with time of 51.80., before taking sixth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.90. He finished first in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:55.80, while swimming into seventh with a time of 53.06 in the 100 butterfly.
The Fairfax, Virginia, native helped the 400 medley relay team to a third-place finish with a time of 3:28.32 as the leadoff. He also aided the 400 freestyle relay team into fourth with a time 3:12.68 as the leadoff.
The swimming and diving team will take a week-long break before heading to New Haven, Connecticut, for a scrimmage against Yale on Saturday, October 25 at 11 a.m.
