Meet Primer
The UMass women's cross country team will kick off its 2024 slate this Saturday, August 31, with the Ken O'Brien Minuteman Invitational where the squad will host AIC, Boston University, Central Connecticut and Northeastern on the UMass cross country course, beginning at 10:45 a.m. In last year's meet, the Minutewomen took nine of the top-10 spots, finishing in first with a score of 18, led by Annika Zuschlag who posted her first collegiate individual win, completing the 4K course in 14 minutes, 25.8 seconds. Head coach Christine Engel returns for her fourth year at the helm with a team highlighted by Zuschlag, 2023 Atlantic 10 All-Conference performer Eugenia Fairhurst and sophomore Lara Mannes Diaz de Cerio who scored in all five meets she competed in as a rookie last season. To go along with 17 returners, UMass has added six first years to its group for 2024. Prior to the start of Saturday's competition, UMass will honor the memory of former head coach Ken O'Brien who passed away in June.
