Four Minutewomen Selected To NFHCA Watch List

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts field hockey student-athletes Hannah de GastMyrte van Herwijnen, Claire Danahy and Dempsey Campbell were named to the NFHCA Division I Watch List, the organization announced Thursday. 
 
Danahy and van Herwijnen earn selection to the list in back-to-back years, while de Gast and Campbell each receive their debut place on the watch list.  
 
De Gast, a senior, receives selection after already earning a place on the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference Team. A 2023 NFHCA First-Team All-Region honoree, de Gast sat fifth on the team in points (12) and third in assists (4) last season. The Zeist, The Netherlands native was a key part of a Massachusetts defensive unit which stood top-25 in the nation in GAA (1.35), top-20 in defensive saves (5) and recorded five shutout victories including the final three games of the regular season.
 
Van Herwijnen earns her place after receiving A-10 Goalkeeper of The Year honors a season ago. The Huizen, The Netherlands native was a three-time Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of The Week (9/5, 9/25, 10/10) while leading the A-10 and sitting no. 8 nationally in total saves (104). Van Herwijnen led the A-10 and ranked no. 3 nationally in save percentage (.813), repeatedly providing top-class performances in big games. The goalkeeper topped the A-10 and ranked no. 12 nationally in saves per game (6.13) while recording three double-digit save performances over the regular season. The netminder also received A-10 Preseason All-Conference Team selection.

A two-time A-10 All-Conference honoree, Danahy earns her second consecutive selection to the NFHCA Watch List. The Chelmsford, Massachusetts native was a perennial presence in the midfield for the Minutewomen, starting all 20 games a season ago. Danahy totaled seven points in 2023, scoring three goal to go along with one assist. 

Campbell earns her first selection to the watch list after a breakout 2023 campaign which saw her earn A-10 All-Conference honors. The Saunderstown, Rhode Island native led the Minutewomen with nine goals across 20 games last season. Putting on one of the top individual performances of last season, Campbell Scored two second half goals to help secure 3-2 overtime victory over VCU in the A-10 semifinal.

The
Minutewomen open up the 2024 season on the road as they travel to Evanston, Illinois to face Maine on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 11 a.m. and Northwestern on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 1 p.m.
