AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts hockey will welcome 6-5, 225-pound right-shot defenseman Charlie Lieberman to its roster for 2024-25, head coach Greg Carvel announced on Thursday. Hailing from Naperville, Illinois, Lieberman joins forward Cameron Dunn, defensemen Francesco Dell'Elce, Daniel Jencko, Larry Keenan and Finn Loftus and goaltender James Norton as the seventh member of the Minutemen's incoming freshman class.
"Charlie is a big, hard-nosed defenseman who can skate and move pucks effectively up the ice," said UMass head coach Greg Carvel. "His pro frame allows him to play a hard style of defending, which fits in well with our identity at UMass. He has developed and matured in the two best junior leagues in our country and will continue his development in our program."
In his one season in the United States Hockey League (USHL), Liberman played in 52 games for the Youngstown Phantoms and Omaha Lancers, totaling nine points on two goals and seven assists, all which came during his tenure with the Lancers. He served as an assistant captain for Omaha, as well.
Prior to the USHL, Lieberman saw action in 70 games for the Janesville Jets of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) and put up 15 points with 15 assists from 2020-2023.
