Massachusetts Hockey Announces Addition Of Larry Keenan To Incoming Class

June 17, 2024 | Hockey

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts has added 6-3, 185-pound left-shot defenseman Larry Keenan to the roster for the 2024-25 season, head coach Greg Carvel announced on Monday. A Midhurst, Ontario native, Keenan joins forward Cameron Dunn, defensemen Francesco Dell'Elce, Daniel Jencko and Finn Loftus and goaltender James Norton as the sixth member of the Minutemen's incoming freshmen class. He was selected by the Detroit Red Wings in the fourth round of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft with the 117th overall pick.

"Larry is a tall, smooth-skating defenseman that should be an immediate difference maker when he steps foot on campus," said Carvel. "His offensive game has continued to grow over the last few years, while he has always maintained the ability to defend with his feet and his frame."

Keenan spent the 2023-24 season alongside fellow Minuteman Dell'Elce as a member of the Penticton Vees of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). In 53 regular season games for the Vees, Kennan totaled 30 points on six goals and 24 assists. He added nine points (2g, 7a) over Penticton's 22 postseason contests and was named to the BCHL All-Rookie Team.

Prior to his time in Junior hockey, Keenan appeared in 91 games over two seasons for Culver Military Academy totaling 65 points on 21 goals and 44 assists.
