Five Minutemen Earn Atlantic 10 Postseason Honors

Gervasi selected to All-Conference First Team, Beverly and Burgess collect All-Academic Team accolades, and Masteralexis and O’Connor voted to All-Rookie Team.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Graduate students Mike Gervasi and Austin Burgess, redshirt junior Jack Beverly, and redshirt freshmen Justin Masteralexis and Robbie O'Connor of the University of Massachusetts baseball team have been honored by the Atlantic 1 Conference with postseason awards, as announced by the league on Wednesday morning. Gervasi was named to the A-10 All-Conference First Team, as Beverly and Burgess were placed on the All-Academic Team, and Masteraleixs and O'Connor were tabbed to the All-Rookie Team.
Gervasi completed the regular season with a .306 batting average, a .582 slugging percentage and a .405 on-base percentage in 48 games played with 44 starts. He totaled 31 runs, 52 hits, including five doubles and a team-leading 14 home runs, 24 walks and 42 RBI in 170 at-bats. The designated hitter also tallied 99 total bases, marking the most on the team. Gervasi posted an eight-game hitting streak, while holding a reached-base streak of eight. He had 15 multi-hit games in the regular season, including five games with three hits, and was tied for first on the team with 13 multi-RBI games. The Rockland, Massachusetts, native, tied for third in the A-10 Conference with his 14 home runs.
Beverly, a psychology major, from Framingham, Massachusetts, finished the regular season with a .293 batting average, a .467 slugging percentage and a .370 on-base percentage. In 40 appearances, including 39 starts, he registered 44 hits with eight doubles and six home runs, 22 runs and 28 RBI in 150 at-bats. Beverly registered 70 total bases in the year. He held an eight-game hitting streak in the season and a 10-game long reached base streak. The redshirt junior posted 15 multi-hit games and 10 multi-RBI contests. In the field, Beverly recorded a .933 fielding percentage on 85 putouts and 54 assists, while contributing to nine double plays.
A management major from Hughesville, Maryland, Burgess led the team with a .314 batting average and a .444 on-base percentage, while posting a .506 slugging percentage in the regular season. Starting in 40 of 47 games played, he strung together 49 hits, including a team-high 10 doubles, a triple and six home runs, a team-leading 26 walks, 40 runs and 36 RBI. He tallied 79 total bases in the season and stole 11 bases on 13 attempts. Burgess had a seven-game hitting streak and a 21-game long reached base streak, while recording 15 multi-hit games and 10 multi-RBI games, which included one five-plus RBI contest. The graduate student registered a .983 fielding percentage with 165 putouts, eight assists and three errors, while contributing to seven double plays.
In his rookie season, Masteralexis earned the start in 10 of his 11 appearances on the mound for the Minutemen. The Amherst, Massachusetts, native, posted a team-best 4.14 ERA and had an overall record of 5-1, marking the most winning decisions on the team. He also had one combined shutout on the season. The redshirt freshman tossed 50 innings, allowing 41 hits, 26 runs with 23 earned and 27 walks, while striking out 38 batters in the regular season.
O'Connor, started in all 13 games he appeared in on the hill during his rookie season for the Maroon and White. He had a 4.44 ERA and a 3-5 record at the end of the regular season, pitching two complete games on the year. The Sudbury, Massachusetts, native threw 71 innings with 67 hits, 46 runs, including 35 earned, 18 walks and dealt 48 strikeouts. O'Connor ranks eighth in the A-10 with his 4.44 ERA, while sitting sixth in the league in opposing batting average (.247). The redshirt freshman is also fifth in innings pitched (71) and sixth with 19 batters striking out looking in A-10. O'Connor was named A-10 Pitcher of the Week on May 6, while garnering A-10 Rookie of the Week on May 20.
