Dean, Hanson Named UMass Student-Athletes Of The Week

The duo will be honored at the UMass Sports Luncheon on Wednesday.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts student-athletes Jordan Dean of women's lacrosse and Carter Hanson of baseball were named as the UMass Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by UMassFive College Credit Union. The duo will be recognized on Wednesday at the UMass Sports Luncheon at the Berkshire Dining Commons, while the 2024 Atlantic 10 Championship tennis team will be honored, as well.
Dean set a new NCAA Division I record for draw controls in a single season after finishing with 17 in a 13-12 win at Richmond on Saturday. Dean's 14th game with double-digit draw controls helped secure an A-10 regular season crown for the Minutewomen while surpassing the previous DI record of 233. The junior became the second player in program history last week to surpass 400 draw controls in a single season while setting the single season program mark with 238 heading into postseason play.
On a 4-1 week for UMass, Hanson had a .450 batting percentage, a .435 on base percentage and a .800 slugging percentage. He strung together nine hits, including two home runs and a double, totaled five runs and added 12 RBI in 20 at bats on the week. At UConn, he had one hit, which was a home run, with a run and two RBI on the night. In the 15-4 win at Siena, the junior contributed two hits, including a double, and an RBI. In game one of the Saint Joseph's series, Hanson went 3-for-4 with his seventh homer of the year, while driving in a career-best five runs and scoring two runs of his own. Game two saw one hit, a run and two RBI from Hanson, while registering two hits, one run and two RBI in the series finale against SJU. In the field, Hanson tallied 14 putouts and two assists.
The No. 3-seeded UMass tennis team earned a bye into the Quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Championships. The Minutewomen went 3-0 in the tournament, garnering the program's third A-10 Championship Title for the first time since the 2016-17 season.
