The Minutewomen improve to 8-5 overall on the year.
MANCHESTER, Conn. – University of Massachusetts tennis faltered, 4-3, to the University of Connecticut at the Magic Lincer Tennis Academy on Wednesday afternoon. The Minutewomen drop to 8-7 overall with the loss.
UConn notched the doubles point with wins at courts No. 1 and No. 2. Olivia Wright and Maria Constantinou of UConn downed Danielle Hack and Thamonpan Jonglertrakul, 6-4, at No. 1, but partners Mariana Campino and Renata Farima picked up a 6-1 triumph over the Huskies' Victoria Matos and Isabella Asenov at No. 3 doubles. Isabel Petri Bere and Caroline Hinshaw secured the point for UConn on court No. 2, winning 6-2 over Ella Faessler and Amelia Tye.
The Minutewomen battled back in singles competition, earning wins at courts No.3, No. 4 and No. 6. Faessler defeated UConn's Petri Bere in three sets, 6-0, 2-6, 6-4, at No. 3, before Campino recorded a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles over Hinshaw of UConn. Alexandra O'Brien fought hard in three sets to claim the point at court No. 6, taking down Asenov of the Huskies, 3-6, 6-0, 6-3. The Huskies, though, went on to win three matches at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5 singles to clinch the match.
Massachusetts returns to Atlantic 10 Conference play with two matches in Amherst. The Minutewomen host Richmond on Saturday, April 6, before welcoming George Washington on Sunday, April 7. Both matches are set for 1 p.m.
