Polina Akimova grabs the only singles point of the day for the Minutewomen.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – University of Massachusetts tennis fell to Yale, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.
Massachusetts notched the doubles point as partners Danielle Hack and Thamonpan Jonglertrakul earned a 6-3 win over Yale's Orly Ogilvy and Mirabelle Brettkelly at court No. 1. Duo Ella Faessler and Amelia Tye went on to defeat Shyla Aggarwal and Jamie Kim of Yale at No. 2 doubles to help secure the point for the Minutewomen. Mariana Campino and Renata Farima competed at No. 3, with the match coming to halt with the dup down in a close 5-4 match.
The Bulldogs picked up four points, while Polina Akimova grabbed the only singles point of the day for UMass. Akimova defeated Kim of Yale, 6-2, 7-5, at court No. 6, as she remains undefeated in singles competition with four wins. Yale tabbed wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5, to top Massachusetts. Jonglertrakul was up 7-5, 1-6, 2-1 over Yale's Aggarwal at court No. 3 before the match came to an end.
UMass returns to Amherst on Sunday, March 10, to host Lehigh and Siena for a doubleheader at the Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center. The match against Lehigh will begin at 11 a.m., and the contest against Siena is set to start at 4 p.m.
