The Minutewomen improve to 8-5 overall on the year.
GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Massachusetts tennis took down UNC Greensboro, 6-1, in a non-conference match at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday morning. With the win, UMass is now 8-5 overall on the season.
Massachusetts picked up the doubles point with wins at courts No. 2 and No. 3. After Arina Babkova and Raegan Mitchell of UNC Greensboro defeated Danielle Hack and Thamonpan Jonglertrakul, 6-0, at No. 1 doubles, partners Ella Faessler and Amelia Tye came out on top with a 6-4 win over Alexandra Dodashev and Sydney Bly of UNC Greensboro at No. 2. The duo of Mariana Campino and Renata Farima clinched the point with a 7-5 triumph at No. 3 doubles over the Spartans' Lauren Thomson and Juliana Craft.
The Minutewomen kept up their momentum heading into singles play, picking up five more points. Hack defeated UNC Greensboro's Babkova, 6-2, 6-0 at court No. 1, while Jonglertrakul took down Dodashev of the Spartans, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 2. At No. 3 singles, Campino won 6-4, 7-5 over UNC Greensboro's Mitchell, and at No. 4 singles, Tye downed Craft of UNC Greensboro, 6-4, 6-3. Compassion Tsai earned UMass' final point of the day, and her first win of the 2024 spring season, with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at court No. 6 over Bly of the Spartans.
UNC Greensboro's lone point came at No. 5 singles, as Thomson defeated Alexandra O'Brien, 6-4, 6-0.
Massachusetts heads to Cambridge, Massachusetts, to face in-state rival Harvard on Saturday, March 30, at 5 p.m.
