Massachusetts Tennis Bests Quinnipiac, 5-2

AMHERST, Mass – University of Massachusetts Tennis defeated Quinnipiac 5-2 Saturday afternoon at Bay Road Tennis Center.

UMass notched the doubles point with wins on courts No. 1 and No. 2. The duo of Danielle Hack and Thamonpan Jonglertrakul kicked off the action with a 6-2 victory on court No. 1, over Quinnipiac's Jordan Bradley and Nikole Lisovyy. The team remains undefeated this season (3-0). At No. 2 doubles, Ella Faessler and Amelia Tye pulled out a 7-5 advantage against Anagha Shankar and Vera Sekerina of the Bobcats to clinch the doubles point. On court No. 3, Renata Farima and Mariana Campino lost a narrow 7-5 match to Quinnipiac's Caitlin Flower and Caroline Schulson.

In singles play, Hack earned the first singles point on court No. 1, defeating Shankar of Quinnipiac, 6-2, 6-4. At third singles, Jonglertrakul captured a 6-4, 6-3 win over the Bobcats' Schulson. Massachusetts' momentum continued when Faessler completed a come-from-behind victory over Quinnipiac's Sekerina, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 on court No. 2. After another three-set battle, the Bobcats' Flower pulled out a tight 6-7 (7) 6-3, 6-7 (5) win against Tye for the team's first point on the afternoon. On court No. 5, Krasakova furthered UMass' lead with a 6-2, 6-4 win against Bradley of Quinnipiac on court No. 5. Quinnipiac was able to nab a another point in a consecutive three-set thriller at No. 6 singles, but Massachusetts' early dominance proved too strong; the final score reading 5-2.

With the postponement of UMass' match against St. John's on February 3, the Minutewomen look ahead to a weekend series versus Georgetown and Army at West Point, N.Y. on February 10 and 11.
