Massachusetts Men's Track & Field Takes Fifth At The Atlantic 10 Championships

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.- The University of Massachusetts men's track & field team collected a sliver and a bronze medal on the track on day two of the Atlantic 10 Championships at the Virginia Beach Sports Center on Saturday as the team wrapped up competition in fifth in the standings with a score of 60 points, just two points behind Saint Louis. Rhode Island claimed the team championship with 227 points.
 
Highlights from competition:
 
  • Will Kenney collected silver in the mile, clocking in at 4 minutes, 8.59 seconds and Collin Catherwood secured a point for the Minutemen in eighth (4:18.47).
  • Robert Carew earned UMass' second podium spot of the day, picking up bronze in the 3,000 meter run in 8 minutes, 20.32 seconds.
  • The Minutemen scored three in heptathlon, led by Greg Desrosiers in fifth with a score of 4,539. Elijah Wolinski was sixth (4,439) and Alexander Perenick took eighth (4,276).
  • Shane Grant ran 2:28.34 to fifth in the 1,000 meter run.
  • Godot Gaskins took home sixth in the 400m, posting a time of 49.37 seconds.
  • In 60 meter hurdles, Nasir Perry placed seventh in 8.42 seconds.
  • UMass' top performer in the field, Joseph Duggan claimed fourth in shot put (51'5.5").
  • Joachim Ennoo captured eighth in triple jump with a mark of 47 feet, 2.5 inches.
  • The Minutemen's 4x800 relay of Grant, Colin Kirn, Nicholas Calitri and Kenney combined to finish fifth in 7:43.85. The 4x400 relay squad, Winston Lewis, Sean McKayMichael Harden and Gaskins, also took fifth (3:17.77).
 
UMass will wrap up its indoor season at the New England Championships, which will be held at The TRACK at New Balance on March 1-2.
