Minutewomen Claim Convincing Win Over Saint Louis, 5-1

AMHERST, Mass. -- No. 19 Massachusetts (8-3, 3-0) remained unbeatean in Atlantic 10 play, claiming a convincing 5-1 victory over Saint Louis (1-7, 0-3) on Friday at Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex. The Minutewomen totaled five goals from four different players in a dominant showing that included 48 shots and 19 penalty corners for the home side.
Graduate Student Elena Clococeanu led the Minutewomen offensively, recording her first brace in the maroon and white. Clococeanu continued to be a dynamic presence on set pieces, scoring both her goals from either a penalty stroke or corner on the day. The Hamburg, Germany native is now tied with Elani Sherwood for the team lead in goal, ranking fifth in the A-10 with six on the year.
Defender Paula Lorenzini also converted a penalty stroke in the matchup, scoring her fourth goal of season. The tally marks a new single season career-high for the Mendoza, Argentina native. Lorenzini fired in a game-high 10 shots, seven of which were on goal.
Sophomore Kristy Leonard and senior Hannah de Gast each recorded their second goal of the season, netting the game's first and second scores.
Saint Louis was led by Josefina Perez who scored her eighth goal of the season in the matchup.
