Minutewomen Claim Shutout Win Over No. 11 Boston College

October 06, 2024 | Field Hockey

AMHERST, Mass. -- No. 19 Massachusetts (9-3, 3-0) defended home turf against a ranked foe, claiming a gritty 1-0 victory over No. 11 Boston College (8-3, 3-0) on Sunday at Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex. With the win, the Minutewomen earn their third ranked victory and fourth shutout of the season.

Overall, the Huizen, Netherlands native led a Massachusetts defensive penalty corner unit which held Boston College scoreless on 10 attemps, including four in the fourth quarter of play.

Senior Dempsey Campbell scored what would eventually become the game-winner, tipping a long circle insert from Neva Eisenga over the Eagles goalkeeper to get Massachusetts on the board. The game sealing score marks Campbell's fifth goal of the season and second game-winner.

Graduate Student Elena Clococeanu continued to be a steady presence on both ends of the field, helping hold down the back line while leading the team with two shots on the afternoon. Elani Sherwood and Kristy Leonard also tallied shots in the matchup.
