Trio Named UMass Student-Athletes Of The Week

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts student-athletes Stefanie Kulesza of women's basketball, Matt Cross of men's basketball and Andrew Bell of men's swimming and diving were tabbed as the UMass Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by UMassFive College Credit Union. All three student-athletes will be honored at the UMass Sports Luncheon on Wednesday at the Berkshire Dining Commons.

Kulesza averaged 15.5 points, a team-leading 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.5 steals per game last week. Kulesza shot 65-percent from the field and 71-percent (5-of-7) from 3-point range. The junior opened the week with 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals in a win over Dayton in the A-10 home opener. Kulesza ended the week by scoring 18 points to go along with six rebounds, two steals, and two assists.

Cross averaged 16.5 points and 11 rebounds while shooting 63.2% from the floor over the opening week of Atlantic 10 play. The senior led the Minutemen in two conference matchups including a 15 point, eight rebound performance to power the Minutemen to a commanding win over Duquesne (80-61) in the A-10 opener. Cross also put on a versatile display in a competitive matchup at Dayton, recording an 18 point and 14 rebound double-double, his third of the season to this point. The Beverly, Massachusetts native now has seven double-doubles in his two seasons in the A-10.

Bell placed first in both events on the boards as the Minutemen defeated Bryant 172.5-115.5 in Saturday's dual meet. Bell earned a six-dive total of 409.05 in the one-meter, breaking his own previous school record (385.43) from earlier this season. In the three-meter dive, he scored a 364.28 to secure the gold.
