Five Minutewomen Named to NFHCA Watch List

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts field hockey student-athletes Jess Beech, Claire DanahyMali HerberholdJosie Rossbach, and Myrte van Herwijnen were named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Watch List, the organization announced Tuesday. 
 
The list is published to promote the field hockey student-athletes with the greatest potential for consideration to this season's NFHCA All-American teams. To be nominated for the 2023 NFHCA Watchlist, student-athletes must have been previously recognized for their outstanding field hockey abilities within the past two years.

Beech, a graduate student, receives the selection after starting in 19 of 20 games during the 2023 campaign. The midfielder recorded 8 goals and 3 assists for 19 total points. The Marlow, England native was an NFHCA Third Team All-American and an A-10 First Team All-Conference selection in 2022. 

Danahy, a senior, earns a place on the list after receiving A-10 All-Conference Second Team selection in 2022. The Chelmsford, Massachusetts native started in all 20 games for the Minutewomen in 2022, scoring six goals and dishing out two assists over a 972 minutes of action.
 
Herberhold, earns selection after a 2022 season which saw her named the A-10 Rookie of the Year and an A-10 All-Rookie team selection. The sophomore midfielder comes into 2023 after playing in all 20 games last season totaling seven goals and nine assists. 

Rossbach, a five-year starter, comes into 2023 after earning A-10 All-Conference Second Team honors a season ago. The Leesburg, Virginia native has been a perennial presence in the Minutewomen backline, playing nearly 6000 minutes in her UMass career. 
 
Van Herwijnen comes into the 2023 season after starting in all 20 games a season ago, recording a 1.605 goals against average and a conference-best .733 save percentage. She recorded 85 saves on 200 shots faced and posted three total shutouts on the season. The sophomore was a A-10 First-Team and NFHCA All-Region selection in 2022. 

Massachusetts field hockey looks to continue its hot start as it welcomes No. 13 Harvard to Amherst for their 2023 home opener on Friday, Sept. 1 at 4 p.m. The Minutewomen's Friday afternoon matchup will be streamed live on ESPN+.
