Vanroboys Added To Massachusetts Hockey Roster As Graduate Transfer

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey will welcome 6-2, 190-pound right-shot forward Lucas Vanroboys as a graduate transfer from Bentley for the 2023-24 season, UMass head coach Greg Carvel announced on Monday. Vanroboys, a native of Thamesville, Ontario, is the 12th newcomer the Minutemen have added to the squad this offseason, joining graduate transfers forward Liam Gorman and defenseman Samuli Niinisaari and freshmen forwards Bo Cosman, Dans Locmelis, Jack Musa, Cameron O'Neill, Aydar Suniev and Nick Van Tassell, defenseman Sebastian Törnqvist and goaltenders Michael Hrabal and Jackson Irving.
"Lucas Vanroboys is a big competitive center who will add to our depth down the middle of the ice this season," said Carvel. "His proven physicality in college hockey over four seasons combined with his compete in the faceoff circle will make Lucas a great addition to our locker room."
Vanroboys saw action in 111 games over four years at Bentley and logged 11 goals and 33 assists for 44 points, including a career best 20 points (4g, 16a) in 2022-23 while ranking fourth in Atlantic Hockey in faceoff winning percentage at .560 (329-of-587).
In 2021-22, Vanroboys finished ninth in Atlantic Hockey with 315 faceoff wins and led the Falcons with a .575 faceoff winning percentage in 2020-21.
Prior to playing college hockey, Vanroboys spent two seasons in the British Columbia Hockey League, splitting the 2018-19 campaign between the Cowichan Valley Capitals and the Prince George Spruce Kings. He helped Prince George win the 2019 BCHL championship with four goals and five assists in the postseason and totaled 10 goals and 13 assists in 42 regular season games with the two clubs. The season prior, Vanroboys appeared in 57 games with the Nanaimo Clippers and had 25 points (14g, 11a) in 2017-18.
