AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey will add 6-4, 196-pound right-shot forward Nicholas VanTassell to the 2023-24 roster, head coach Greg Carvel announced on Wednesday. VanTassell joins forwards Dans Locmelis, Jack Musa, Cameron O'Neill and Aydar Suniev as the fifth member of the Minutemen's freshman class for next season. "Nick has great size and combines it with notable offensive ability and therefore is on NHL's Central Scouting List for the upcoming draft, said Carvel. "Nick has the potential to be an effective power forward in Hockey East and I'm excited to see his game continue to grow once he gets to UMass. There is a lot of potential to be reached if Nick can continue developing his compete for the puck and use his size most effectively."

Over two seasons with the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League (USHL), VanTassell registered 56 points in 123 games on 31 goals and 25 assists, including three postseason contests. This past year with the Gamblers, VanTassell totaled 19 goals and 18 assists for 37 points during the 2022-23 regular season.
