Massachusetts Women's Track And Field's Kirry NCAA Bound For Second Straight Year

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's track and field junior Lillian Kirry in NCAA Championships bound for a second consecutive season, it was announced on Thursday. Kirry will compete in the 400 meter hurdles first round on Thursday, May 26, at 8:20 p.m. in Jacksonville, Florida on the University of North Florida campus.
 
The Chewelah, Washington native is ranked 22nd in the East in 400 hurdles with a time of 57.74, which she ran at the Atlantic 10 Championships two weeks ago, breaking the UMass, facility and A-10 Championship records en route to her second consecutive conference title. Kirry raced the event five times this spring, taking first on three occasions and second once.
 
At the NCAA East Preliminary Championships in 2022, Kirry ran 58.83 seconds to third in the opening heat to earn her an automatic qualification for the quarterfinals. Her time was good for 20th in the field of 48 competitors. In the quarterfinals, she took seventh in her heat and 23rd overall with a time of 59.52 seconds.
 
The 2023 400 meter hurdles semifinals are slated for Saturday, May 27 at 7:25 p.m.  The top-three from each heat plus the next three fastest times will advance to the National semifinals in Austin Texas at Mike A. Myers Stadium. Texas will host the NCAA Championships June 7-10.
