The Minutewomen close out the regular season with an 11-6 record
NEWPORT, R.I.. – University of Massachusetts tennis garnered a 4-0 victory against Atlantic 10 foe, University of Rhode Island in their regular season finale at the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
The Saturday evening blowout marked Massachusetts' fourth shutout of the season, cementing their record on the year to 11-6, and 5-1 in the A-10. Rhode Island falters to an overall record of 6-16, and 2-4 in the A-10.
The Minutewomen came out strong, earning victories at both No. 1 and No. 2 for the doubles point. Danielle Hack and Anna Napadiy claimed a 6-2 win on court No. 2 versus the Rams' Paulina Loredo and Nadia Rajan. The pair of Thamonpan Jonglertrakul and Dylan Cannon were unsuccessful against Priyanka Shanker and Nikki Fernando of Rhode Island, falling 6-4 at No. 3 doubles. Melisa Senli and Mariya Krasakova triumphed over the Rams' Sophie Herman and Valentina Cvackova, 7-6 on court No. 1– clinching the doubles point.
UMass furthered its lead with wins at No. 6, No. 5 and No. 3 singles. Polina Akimova mounted a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Rhode Island's Ava Grnja at No. 6 singles, before Jonglertrakul bested Loredo of the Rams, 6-3, 6-2 on court No. 5. Krasakova secured the defining match point with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles against Rajan of Rhode Island.
Hack, Senli and Napadiy each went unfinished on courts No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4, respectively, as the match concluded with a final score of 4-0.
The Minutewomen look ahead to postseason play. UMass will travel to Lake Nona, Florida to compete in the A-10 Championship at the USTA National Campus, beginning on Wednesday, April 26th through Sunday, April 30th. Seeding and match times have yet to be announced.
