Massachusetts Tennis Earns Second Straight With A 6-1 Victory Over Fairfield

The Minutewomen improve to 2-1 overall on the season.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis garnered its second straight win over the season with a 6-1 triumph over Fairfield University on Sunday afternoon at the Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center. The Minutewomen improve to a 2-1 overall record, while the Stags drop to 0-3 on the year.
With UMass' second win of the weekend, the Minutewomen are currently on a 10-match winning streak at home, dating back to February 12 of last season.
After Fairfield led 1-0, UMass swept the doubles competition, picking up wins on all three courts to bring the match to a 1-1 draw. The duo of Anna Napadiy and Dylan Cannon took down Scarlett Hutchinson and Lucie Tuttle of Fairfield, 6-4, on court No. 3 first, while partners Danielle Hack and Thamonpan Jonglertrakul clinched the point for the Minutewomen with a 6-3 victory against the Stags' Paulina Bakaite and Sarah Liu at No. 1. At court No. 2, Melisa Senli and Mariya Krasakova finished out their match with Fairfield's Lize-Alet Morkel and Francesca Karman, winning 6-3.
Massachusetts kept the momentum going into singles play, as Krasakova notched the first point at court No. 3, downing Liu of Fairfield, 6-2, 6-1. Jonglertrakul grabbed the second singles point of the day with a 6-4, 6-2, win over Fairfield's Karman on court No. 4. At No. 2 singles, Hack took down the Stags' Bakaite, 6-4, 6-2, before Senli came away with a 6-1, 7-5 victory at court No. 1 over Morkel of Fairfield. Napadiy concluded singles competition on court No. 5 defeating Fairfield's Hutchinson, 6-4, 6-4
UMass will take a break before returning to action with a trip to South Orange, New Jersey, to take on Seton Hall on Friday, February 17 at 6:45 p.m., before heading to Piscataway, N.J. on Saturday, February 18, to compete against Rutgers at 5 p.m.
