Hughes Selected to All-America Third Team By College Soccer News

AMHERST, Mass.- Senior forward Alec Hughes was named to the All-America Third Team as announced by College Soccer News. With the honor, Hughes became the first Minuteman since Davis Smith in 2017 to be named to an All-America team.
By being named to the College Soccer News All-America Third Team, Hughes is the newest addition to the UMass All-American list. Including Hughes, there have been 17 All-Americans, with the first being Granville Pruyne in 1932. Since 2000, UMass has only had four players earn the honor with Jeff Deran (2001,2002), Zack Simmons (2007), Davis Smith (2017), and now Alec Hughes.
During his time as a Minuteman, Hughes has accumulated 4,465 minutes on the pitch. He has recorded 77 points on 35 goals and seven assists. His 35 career goals is fifth all-time at UMass while his 77 points is seventh. While in Amherst, he has been named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year (2019) and Atlantic 10 Player of the Year twice (2022, 2023), becoming the only men's soccer player within the Atlantic 10 Conference to ever earn both the accolades. Hughes has been named to the Atlantic 10 First-Team three times while also earning ECAC Offensive Player of the Year (2023).
This season, Hughes started all 19 games for the Minutemen while leading the team and the conference in goals with 15. He racked up 1,489 minutes of playing time while starting all 19 games for the Minutemen. Along with goals, the Glastonbury, Connecticut native led the Minutemen and the A-10 in points (31), points per game (1.63), goals per game (.789), and shots on goal (37). His 15 tallies this year is tied for fifth most in a single season in program history. In the postseason, Hughes scored the first goal of the quarterfinal against No. 2 Saint Louis (11/3) and netted a penalty kick to propel UMass to the conference semifinals.
