Cakiroglu and Williams Earn Atlantic 10 Weekly Awards

Beren Cakiroglu tabbed Women’s Rookie of the Week, while Bri Williams is selected Women’s co-Performer of the Week.
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Freshman Beren Cakiroglu and senior Bri Williams of the University of Massachusetts women's swimming and diving team earned Atlantic 10 Women's Rookie and Women's co-Performer of the Week honors. The accolades mark the first for both Cakiroglu and Williams in their careers, as the duo aided the Minutewomen to securing first at the Justin Jennings Invitational last weekend with 923 points.
Williams garnered first place finished in both the 100 backstroke and the 200 backstroke, swimming a time of 58.03 and 2:06.23, respectively. She also aided the 400 medley relay team to gold with a time of 3:54.59, swimming a 58.01 time in her leg of the race, while helping the 400 free relay team to a silver medal with a time of 3:35.69.
Cakiroglu captured two first-place finishes in her collegiat debut, winning the 200 free with a time of 1:54.45 and the 100 free with a time of 53.33. She also placed fourth in the 50 free, completing the event with a time of 24.70. Cakiroglu assisted the 400 medley relay team to a silver medal (3:56.67), while helping the 400 free relay team to a bronze medal (3:38.20).
Massachusetts swimming and diving is back in action at the NJIT Invite in Newark, New Jersey, on Friday, October 13 through Saturday, October 14. The meet will be swim only, with Friday's events kicking off at 5 p.m., while Saturday's events begin at 10 a.m.
