Fairhurst Paces Women's Cross Country In Season Opener

The sophomore finished first overall at the UVM Invitational, helping the Minutewomen to a second place team finish.
ST. ALBANS, Vt. – Sophomore Eugenia Fairhurst led University of Massachusetts women's cross country with a first-place overall finish at the UVM Invitational in the season opener for the Minutewomen at Hard'Ack Recreation Area. UMass claimed second in the team standings with a score of 48, while Dartmouth (42) won the meet, UMass Lowell (53) took third, Stonehill (87) was fourth and Vermont (100) fifth.

UMass will be back in action next Saturday, Sept. 10, hosting the Ken O'Brien Minuteman Invitational at the UMass cross country course.

THE UMASS TOP-FIVE
- Fairhurst completed the 5K in 17:59.60, her first individual win of her career and first time as UMass' No. 1 scorer.
- Sydney Adams took second for the Minutewomen and fifth overall (18:37.69),
- Grace Phair was third on the team and eighth overall (18:45.80)
- Sarah Conant placed 12th as UMass' No. 4 scorer (19:03.60)
- Hannah Rose Beckman was fifth for the team and 22nd overall (19:31.50).
UMass will be back in action next Saturday, Sept. 10, hosting the Ken O'Brien Minuteman Invitational at the UMass cross country course.
