AMHERST, Mass. - The No. 22 University of Massachusetts field hockey team is set to face off against the Davidson Wildcats, an Atlantic 10 foe, on Friday, September 23 at 3 p.m. and the Columbia Lions on Sunday, September 25 at 3 p.m.. Both games will be played at home at the Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex, and Friday's game will be streamed on ESPN+.
Last Time Out
The Minutewomen bested Boston University on Monday afternoon, 3-1. Junior Claire Danahy scored two goals in the second half, with assists registered by freshman Mali Herberhold on both, to allow the Minutewomen to push past the Terriers. Senior Steph Gottwals also notched a goal on the day, and freshman goaltender Myrte van Herwijnen recorded six saves.
Scouting the Wildcats
Davidson is currently 3-4 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. Natalie Naticchia and Anna Sharp both lead the team in goals scored at three apiece. Sib Naaktgeboren leads the Wildcats in assists, having recorded five so far this season. Goalkeeper Genna Barge has seen the bulk of the action in the cage for the Wildcats, having started in five games and recorded 27 saves. Barge has also recorded one shutout on the season.
Scouting the Lions
Columbia currently sits at 2-3 on the season. Maya Walker leads the Lions in goals with three and points with seven so far this season. Katie Wimmer has seen action as goalkeeper for Columbia in every game so far. Wimmer has recorded 38 saves, as well as one shutout.
Herberhold Earns Second Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week Accolade
Massachusetts Field Hockey's Mali Herberhold was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week by the league last Monday. This award is the second in Herberhold's collegiate career. Her career-high six points on two goals in the Minutewomen's 6-1 victory over Saint Louis last Friday earned her the honor.
