No. 4 UMass Scores Early and Often in 11-0 Win at Bellarmine

October 18, 2026 | Field Hockey

The Minutewomen’s 11 goals tied for the second most in program history for a game

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The fourth-ranked University of Massachusetts field hockey team scored twice in the game's first three minutes and wouldn't look back, rolling to an 11-0 win at Bellarmine on Sunday. The win improved the Minutewomen record to 15-1 and 7-0 in the MAC.

In the end, seven different Minutewomen scored goals, led by a career-high three from Niamh McKenzie. Emily Barrett and Amber Fairon each scored two. Cara Falconer dished two assists while Neva Eisenga, Chiara Curcio and Fiene Jenniskens all scored a goal.

Eisenga opened the scoring with a goal off a penalty corner, her third goal of the weekend at the 1:36 mark. Just 1:11 later, Curcio fired a shot home off a corner for the 2-0 lead.

Fairon took over late in the quarter with a pair of unassisted goals in the span of 1:10 – at the 9:41 and 10:51 marks. On the first, she weaved through the defense and fired a hard reverse into the corner of the cage. Fairon's second gave her 14 goals on the season, a new UMass field hockey freshman record.

Barrett added her first of the game and third of the weekend late in the second quarter, finishing a feed from Falconer for a 5-0 lead, which proved to be the halftime margin.

That score remained until later in the third quarter when the Minutewomen added four more. Jenniskens scored her first of the season at 37:53. McKenzie added two goals, at 40:37 and 44:21, then Barrett converted a penalty stroke for her second of the game at 44:54. That gave UMass a 9-0 lead after 45 minutes of play.

Early in the fourth quarter, McKenzie added another goal, her third in the span of 6:11 of game action.

Elani Sherwood turned a turnover into a reverse shot into the cage for an 11-0 lead at the 53:31 mark, which proved to be the final.

Final shots were 46-0 in favor of UMass with the Minutewomen holding an 8-0 edge in penalty corners.

UMass returns to action on Friday for a 3 p.m. matchup at Longwood.
