AMHERST, Mass. – The No. 20 University of Massachusetts field hockey team will host the Saint Louis Billikens on Saturday, September 10 at 2 p.m. at home. This game opens up the Atlantic 10 conference schedule for both teams.
Last Time Out
The Minutewomen traveled to Iowa City, Iowa, where they went 1-1 on the weekend. The team recorded their first shutout of the season against Providence, 2-0, on Saturday. Freshmen Mali Herberhold and Mia Smith each recorded 3 points in the victory. On Sunday, the team took on the No. 6-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes and was defeated by a score of 2-0.
Scouting the Billikens
The Saint Louis Billikens are currently 1-5 on the season, with their lone 4-1 win occurring against Stonehill. Olivia French leads the team in goals and points, having scored two goals and registered four points so far this season. Brooke Mason leads the team in shots with 11, six of which have been on goal. Sasha Sanders has started all six games in goal for the Billikens, having recorded 42 saves.
Smith Earns Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week Accolade
Massachusetts Field Hockey's Mia Smith was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week by the league on Tuesday afternoon. This award is the first in Smith's collegiate career. Smith's first collegiate goal and assist on Mali Herberhold's game-winning goal on Saturday's 2-0 win against Providence earned her this title.
