Herberhold, Beech Lead No. 20 Massachusetts Field Hockey to Victory Against Saint Louis, 6-1

Mali Herberhold recorded six points and Jess Beech scored two goals to lift the Minutewomen over the Billikens in conference play.
AMHERST, Mass. - The No. 20 Massachusetts Field Hockey team bested the Saint Louis Billikens on Friday afternoon at the Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex by a score of 6-1. Freshman Mali Herberhold and senior Jess Beech led the scoring, both having notched two goals on the day.
Beech opened up scoring on the day just 4:57 into the first quarter, capitalizing on a penalty stroke. Claire Danahy notched a goal just five minutes later, at 9:44 in the second quarter, assisted by Mali Herberhold. The third goal of the first half was scored by Aisling Murray, her first of the season, at 11:14 in the second quarter. Herberhold recorded another assist on this goal. Beech recorded another penalty stroke goal at 12:13 in the second quarter.
The Billikens got one back at 2:26, when Olivia Smith registered a goal, with the assist credited to Ashley Jones. At 7:33 in the third quarter, Herberhold responded, notching her first goal of the day unassisted. Just five minutes later, Herberhold scored again, at 12:22 in the third quarter.
Saint Louis goaltender Sasha Sander recorded 8 saves, while Massachusetts goaltender Myrte van Herwijnen recorded one save. Junior goaltender Brooke Richards replaced van Herwijnen in goal for the second half, having recorded one save on the half as well.
Massachusetts led in shots (24-4), shots on goal (14-3), and corners (7-2). The win brings the Minutewomen to 5-2 (1-0 A-10), while the Billikens drop to 1-6 (0-1 A-10).
The Minutewomen return to action on Monday at home when they take on the Boston University Terriers at 4 p.m. at the Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex.
