IOWA CITY, Iowa - No. 22 Massachusetts Field Hockey fell against the No. 6-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes on Sunday afternoon in an away match at Grant Field by a score of 2-0. The loss drops the Minutewomen to a 4-2 record, while Iowa moves to a 5-1 record.
Iowa opened up scoring just 3:06 into the first quarter with a goal off a penalty corner by Anthe Nijzel. Goalkeeper Myrte van Herwijnen (6 saves) recorded three saves in the first half, including a save on a second quarter penalty stroke, to keep the Minutewomen in the game. The Hawkeyes extended their lead at 14:25 in the third quarter when Alex Wesneski netted a shot off a short pass in front of the goal.
The Minutewomen return to action at home on Friday afternoon as they take on the Saint Louis Billikens for Massachusetts' first conference matchup of the season at 3 p.m. at the Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex.
