The UMass hall of famer led Chrome LC to a second-place finish this season, coming off a 2-7 campaign in 2021.
LOS ANGELES - The Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) announced University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse alumnus Tim Soudan has been named the 2022 Dick Edell Coach of the Year when the league unveiled its end of season awards on Friday. Soudan, who was named the head coach of Chrome LC at the conclusion of the 2019 season, led a bottom-placed 2-7 2021 squad to a second-placed 6-4 record in 2022.
Soudan beat out Whipsnakes' Jim Stagnitta and Archers' Chris Bates to be named the league's third coach to be given the award.
Soudan, a four-year letterman at UMass from 1987-90 and two-time USILA All-American, previously earned Coach of the Year recognition in 2014 while leading the Rochester Rattlers of the MLL to the championship final that season. He coached the Rattlers from 2011 to 2017 and guided the squad to a championship final in 2015, as well.
Soudan, enshrined in the UMass Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012, was one of the most productive midfielders in the history of the men's lacrosse program. He posted 114 points via 84 goals and 30 assists, which ranked 15th all-time upon his graduation in 1990. Soudan won USILA All-America Second Team in 1989 and 1990, while he helped UMass reach the NCAA Tournament in each of his four campaigns.
Following his graduation, Soudan competed professionally in the NLL from 1991-2003 and MLL from 2001-03, while he also won gold medals with Team USA in 1994 and 1998.
In addition to his time as Rattlers head coach, Soudan also served as the NLL's Rochester Knighthawks' assistant general manager and general manager following his playing career and was inducted into the Knighthawks' Hall of Fame in 2009.
