Massachusetts Women’s Lacrosse Adds Aurora Cordingley As Assistant Coach

Aurora Cordingley joins the women’s lacrosse staff after concluding her decorated collegiate career at Maryland and Johns Hopkins.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's lacrosse head coach Jana Drummond announced the hiring of Aurora Cordingley, contingent upon the successful completion of a background check, as an assistant coach on Wednesday afternoon. Cordingley joins the coaching staff after wrapping up her decorated playing career at Maryland, where she was named the Big Ten Attacker of the Year and a Tewaarton Award finalist in 2022.
"We are thrilled to welcome Aurora to our program," said Drummond. "Her passion for lacrosse, incredible work ethic, knowledge for the game, and personable character will be an awesome addition for our staff, program, and athletic department. Aurora comes with an outstanding reputation as a player, teammate, and mentor to the younger generation. Playing for some of the most respected coaches over her career, Aurora will undoubtedly make a seamless transition to the coaching ranks and will be a great mentor to the women of UMass Lacrosse."
Cordingley helped lead the Terrapins as a team captain to the national semifinal as she finished the season ranked fourth in the nation in points and assists while leading the Big Ten in both categories. The IWLCA First-Team All-American totaled 118 points on 67 goals and 51 assists in her final collegiate season and was a two-time USA Lacrosse and IWLCA National Player of the Week. Cordingley finished the year ranked fourth all-time at Maryland in single season points and fifth all-time in single season assists.
The Oakville, Ontario native began her collegiate career at Johns Hopkins, where she finished her career from 2018-21 ninth in career points (182), 10th in goals (116), and sixth in assists (66). Cordingley was tabbed First-Team All-Big Ten and an IWLCA Third-Team All-American in 2021.
She currently plays professionally in the Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse league, where she was selected as the fourth overall pick in the college draft at the end of May. Cordingley also competes with the Canadian Senior National Team and will be playing in the Women's Lacrosse World Cup and in the National Games this summer. She is playinh for Team Canada today at 5:50 p.m. against Czech Republic and if they win, she will be playing tomorrow against England on ESPN+ at 9 p.m.
Cordingley graduated from Maryland with a MS in Business and Management in 2022 and received her BA from Johns Hopkins in 2021. She has coaching experience from her time with C2 Lacrosse and Alliance Lacrosse, where she was a high school assistant coach and coached over 20 DI commits. Cordingley's role included developing game plans with the head coach, planning practice sessions, and analyzing game film to create effective strategies and plays against different defenses.
