Trio Of Minutemen Earn Atlantic 10 Postseason Accolades

DeMartino selected to All-Conference Second Team, Hebble earned All-Academic honors and MacLean voted All-Rookie.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Graduate students Drew DeMartino and Cole Hebble, and freshman Will MacLean of the University of Massachusetts baseball team have been honored by the Atlantic 10 Conference with postseason awards, as announced by the league on Wednesday morning. DeMartino was named to the A-10 All-Conference Second Team, as Hebble was placed on the All-Academic Team, and MacLean was tabbed to the All-Rookie Team.
 
DeMartino completed the season with a .250 batting average, .463 slugging percentage and a .378 on base percentage in 43 games played. He totaled 39 runs, the second most on the team, 40 hits, eight doubles, one triple, a team-leading eight home runs, a team-high 28 walks and the second most RBIs with 35 in 160 at bats. The Pittsfield, Massachusetts, native also tallied 74 total bases throughout the year and stole three bases. In the field, DeMartino registered 71 putouts and a team best 120 assists, while only recording five errors for a .974 fielding percentage. He also contributed to 33 double plays, the most for the Minutemen.
 
Hebble, a sport management major from Miami, Florida, led UMass in multiple categories, including runs (52), hits (69), doubles (20) and total bases (105), while tying for first in triples with two, and tallying four home runs and 25 RBIs in 195 at bats. He also finished with a batting average of .354, a slugging percentage of .538 and an on base percentage of .419, in 47 games. On April 4, the graduate student was lauded A-10 Player of the Week, while also being named a Collegiate Baseball News National Player of the Week. He also earned a spot on the D1Baseball.com Top 30 Hitters list for his performance on April 1, when he recorded career-highs in hits (five), runs (four), RBIs (seven) and doubles (three), and contributed one long ball for a .833 batting average. Hebble was also named to the Brooks Wallace Watch List. In the classroom, he achieved a 3.93 cumulative grade-point average and was honored by UMass Athletics with the Spring 2022 Scholar-Athlete Award.
 
In his rookie season, MacLean had a .321 batting average, a .530 slugging percentage and a .447 on base percentage in 42 games played, getting the start in 37. In 134 at bats, the Exeter, New Hampshire, native, totaled 34 runs, 43 hits, eight doubles, one triple and six home runs, while tallying 71 total bases and five stolen bases. He also led the team in RBIs with 39, including knocking in a career best seven on a career-high four hits in game one at George Washington (5/19). MacLean had the second highest number of putouts in the field with 197, and had eight assists and four errors for a .981 fielding percentage. He also contributed to 15 double plays.
