Massachusetts Tennis Welcomes Fordham For A-10 Matchup

The Minutewomen take on the Rams for a 1 p.m., match on Sunday, April 3, at the Mullins Center Tennis Courts.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis hosts Atlantic 10 foe Fordham University on Sunday, April 3, at the Mullins Center Tennis Courts at 1 p.m. The Minutewomen will look to stay unblemished both in conference play and on their home courts.
LAST TIME OUT
Massachusetts improved to 10-4 overall, included 5-0 at home, after the Minutewomen downed Siena, 6-1, last Sunday at the Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center.
The match started off with Siena up 1-0 due to UMass being unable to fill in the six singles spots because of injuries. The Minutewomen and the Saints competed with two doubles pairs at courts No. 1 and No. 2, where the point went to Massachusetts. Danielle Hack and Thamonpan Jonglertrakul defeated their Siena opponents, 6-0, at No. 1, before Dylan Cannon and Renata Farima won 6-1 at court No. 2 over their opponents.
Jonglertrakul got off to a quick start in singles competition, winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 to make it a 2-1 match, in favor of UMass. Farima grabbed the next point at No. 1 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory of her own. Mariya Krasakova made it a 4-1 contest with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles, while Hack finished 6-2, 6-0 on court No. 2. Cannon clinched the match point for Massachusetts, coming out on top 6-0, 7-6 (0) at No. 6.
SCOUTING FORDHAM
The Rams enter Sunday's match with an 8-3 overall record and will play their first A-10 match on the season against UMass. Fordham is coming off a 5-1 loss to Temple on the road last Saturday.
HIGH [FIVE] TO FARIMA
Farima has garnered the A-10 Rookie of the Week accolade four times in her career. The freshman went 4-0, going 2-0 in both doubles and singles play, to receive the honor on February 8, before collecting the award again on February 15, after posting a 2-0 record in singles play. The Chisinau, Republic of Moldova, native, tabbed the honor on March 1, after going 4-0 overall on the weekend in the Minutewomen's sweeps of both Seton Hall and Holy Cross and, again, on March 15, after aiding the Minutewomen to a 4-1 victory at Bryant after posting a 2-0 record, earning a win in both singles and doubles at the No. 1 spot. In doubles her and Vitoria Okuyama defeated their Bryant opponents, 6-2, before she grabbed a point, winning 6-0, 6-4.
The rookie added to her list of awards on March 29 when she was tabbed the A-10 Performer of the Week. Farima is 11-3 in singles play, so far, this season, and 10-3 in doubles competition, going 5-2 with partner Anna Napadiy, 3-1 with Cannon and 2-0 with Okuyama.
