No. 20 Massachusetts Field Hockey Shuts Down Lock Haven On Senior Day, 4-0

The Minutewomen scored four goals on the day to clinch the No. 2 spot in the conference.
AMHERST, Mass. - The No. 20 University of Massachusetts Minutewomen shut out the Lock Haven Bald Eagles on Friday afternoon at the Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex, 4-0. The win solidified the Minutewomen as No. 2 in the Atlantic 10 conference with an overall record of 13-4 (6-1 in conference play). Meanwhile, Lock Haven secures third place in the conference, sitting at 12-5 (5-2 in conference play).
The first goal, scored by senior Bella Ianni, came just 6:02 into the first quarter when she netted a shot off a few deflections and rebounds inside following senior Steph Gottwals' shot. Just a minute later, at 7:11 in the first quarter, junior Claire Danahy tipped freshman Mali Herberhold's shot in off a penalty corner.
12:27 into the third quarter, senior Jess Beech notched her first of the day off a save by Lock Haven goalkeeper Kelsey Felix (3 saves) off another penalty corner. Herberhold claimed the final goal of the day, scoring on an unassisted breakaway opportunity at 13:40 in the fourth quarter, leaving just two minutes left to play in the match. Massachusetts freshman goalkeeper Myrte van Herwijnen recorded six saves in the shutout to earn the victory.
The Bald Eagles and Minutewomen each had five penalty corner opportunities. Massachusetts also led in shots (15-12) and shots on goal (8-6).
The Minutewomen return to action on Sunday, October 30 as they take on the Northeastern Huskies in their final regular season game at 12 p.m. before returning home to once again take on Lock Haven on Thursday, November 3 in the Atlantic 10 Semifinal matchup at 2 p.m. at the Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex.
