Bonavita Lifts Women’s Soccer To 2-1 Victory At George Washington

Lauren Bonavita registered her 31st career goal to land on the program’s all-time career goal record.
WASHINGTON – Graduate student forward Lauren Bonavita lifted the University of Massachusetts women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over George Washington with a goal in the 76th minute at the GW Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon. Bonavita moved her career goal total to 31, tying her for 10th in the program's all-time career goals record.
The Minutewomen improved to 5-6-5 overall and 4-2-2 in the Atlantic 10, while the Colonial moved to 6-4-6 overall and 1-4-3 in the league.
George Washington opened the scoring on the day in the first half with a goal from Rachel Sorkenn, assisted by Kelly Poole, in the 20th minute of the contest. The Colonials held their 1-0 lead throughout most of the contest, but UMass got on the board late in the second half. Sophomore forward Chandler Pedolzky notched her first goal of the season to bring the game to a 1-1 draw in the 74th minute, before Bonavita netted a goal of her own a minute and 43 seconds later, with the assist from freshman forward Nia Hislop to give the Minutewomen the 2-1 lead.
Massachusetts outshot George Washington, 11-7, including nine on goal to the Colonials one on target. George Washington took four corners, while UMass had three, all in the second half.
Junior goalkeepers Bella Mendoza and Megan Olszewski shared time in the net, each playing a half. Mendoza and Olszewski made no saves, with only one goal allowed in the first half of the game as the lone shot faced. George Washington's Ainsley Lumpe saved seven of the nine shots she faced.
The Minutewomen continue on the road with a trip to Chicago, Illinois, on Thursday, October 20, to take on Loyola at 7 p.m.
