Farima and Akimova earn the Minutewomen's two points of the day.
HANOVER, N.H. – University of Massachusetts tennis fell, 5-2, to Dartmouth College on Sunday afternoon at the Boss Tennis Center. The Minutewomen move to 0-2 on the season, while the Big Green improve to 2-1 overall.
In doubles play, Dartmouth grabbed the point. Court No. 3 finished first, as Lexi Dewire and Chloe Yoo of Dartmouth defeated Dylan Cannon and Mariya Krasakova, 6-3. Danielle Hack and Thamonpan Jonglertrakul earned the solo doubles win for UMass at No. 1, defeating Darmouth's Katie Weber and Elizabeth Fahrmeier 6-3. Chidimma Okpara and Ashley Hess of Dartmouth, though, were able to secure the doubles point with a 7-6 win over Anna Napadiy and Renata Farima at No. 2.
Farima tied up the score at 1-1 quickly into singles competition, as she won 6-0, 6-4 over Nicole Conard of Darmouth at No. 2. Dartmouth's Hess put the Big Green back in the lead, after grabbing a point of her own at No. 3, defeating Hack, 6-0, 6-2, before Fahrmeier of Dartmouth won, 6-4, 6-3, over Krasakova on court No. 5. The Big Green extended their lead with an Okpara victory of 6-2, 6-3, against Napadiy at No. 1 singles, and a Dewire 7-5, 1-6, 13-11, triumph over Jonglertrakul at No. 4, which sealed the deal. Polina Akimova defeated Ujvala Jupalli of Dartmouth on No. 6, 4-6, 6-2, 10-8, to register Massachusetts second point of the afternoon.
UMass will travel to West Point, N.Y., to face Army and Atlantic 10 rival, St. Bonaventure, on Saturday, February 5, and Sunday, February 6, respectively. Saturday's match against Army is slated for a 12:30 p.m. start time, while Sunday's match versus St. Bonaventure will be played at 8 a.m.
