The 6-3, 190-pound left shot forward comes to Amherst from the Brooks Bandits of the AJHL.

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey has added 6-3, 190-pound left shot forward Taylor Makar to its roster for 2021-22, it was announced on Tuesday. Makar comes to UMass from the Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), joining graduate transfer forwards Matt Baker and Cam Donaldson, transfer defenseman Slava Demin and freshman forwards Eric DeDobbelaer and Ryan Lautenbach as the sixth member of the Minutemen's incoming recruiting class.

"Taylor is the younger brother of Cale and we are excited to continue our relationship with the Makar family," said UMass head coach Greg Carvel. "Taylor is a big power forward who can play wing or center. He skates very well for a big player and has a great skill set to go along with his mobility. Taylor played junior hockey last year for the Brooks Bandits. His playing style fits perfectly with our team's identity as will his size and his compete level."

Makar played 104 games over four seasons with Brooks, totaling 61 points on 17 goals and 44 assists. Serving as captain for the Bandits in 2020-21, the Calgary, Alberta native logged 19 points (5g, 14a) in 16 contests and had 63 penalty minutes.
