Massachusetts Hockey Unveils 2021-22 Schedule

The 2021 National Champions will begin their quest for a title defense on Oct. 2 against 2021 National Semifinalist Minnesota State.

AMHERST, Mass. – Seventeen home games, including a season-opening series against 2021 National Semifinalist Minnesota State, highlight the 2021-22 schedule for defending National Champion Massachusetts hockey, which was announced on Thursday. The slate features 24 Hockey East games and 10 non-league contests with 15 of the home matchups being played on Fridays and Saturdays.

Game times, as well as a full promotional schedule for the 2021-22 campaign, will be announced at a later date.
 
The Minutemen will begin their national title defense with two games against the Mavericks at the Mullins Center on Sat., Oct. 2, and Sun., Oct. 3. UMass will take on another 2021 NCAA Tournament participant in Western Mass. foe AIC, with a home-and-home beginning in Springfield on Fri., Oct. 15 and Sat., Oct. 16.
 
On Fri., Oct. 29, the Minutemen will open Hockey East play at Merrimack before hosting the Warriors the following night, Sat., Oct. 30. 
 
The month of November will feature three Hockey East Friday-Saturday home-and-home series, beginning with Providence on Nov. 5 (home) and 6 (away), followed by Boston University on Nov. 12 (away) and Nov. 13 (home) and finishing off with New Hampshire on Nov. 19 (home) and Nov. 20 (away).
 
December begins with a rematch of the 2021 Hockey East title game as the 2021 champion Minutemen will travel to UMass Lowell on Fri., Dec. 3, before hosting the River Hawks on Sat., Dec. 4, the final home game of the 2021 Fall Semester. UMass will travel to Merrimack on Thu., Dec. 9 to wrap up its first half slate.
 
The Minutemen will ring in the New Year with two games at Union on Fri., Dec. 31, and Sat., Jan. 1, before capping off the stretch of five straight road contests with its first-ever meeting with Michigan in Ann Arbor on Sat., Jan. 8 and Sun., Jan 9. 
 
The Minutemen will resume Hockey East action on Fri., Jan. 21, at home against Northeastern followed by a trip to Boston the following day, Sat., Jan. 22, to take on the Huskies at Matthews Arena.
 
UMass will play its lone mid-week home game of the season on Tue., Jan. 25, against Boston University and will close out the month with single games against Providence (home) and UMass Lowell (away) on Fri., Jan. 28 and Sat., Jan. 30, respectively.
 
February begins with a pair of home games against newly-minted Division I program LIU on Fri., Feb. 4, and Sat., Feb. 4. The Minutemen will then host Maine for two on Fri., Feb. 11 and Sat., Feb. 12. 
 
UMass will wrap up the regular season playing four of its final six contests on the road, beginning at UConn on Fri., Feb. 18. The Minutemen will welcome UConn to the Mullins Center the next day, Sat., Feb. 19, before heading up to Vermont for two on Fri., Feb. 25, and Sat. Feb. 26.
 
In its final series of the regular season, UMass will host Boston College on Fri., Mar. 4, and will take on the Eagles in Chestnut Hill on Sat., Mar. 5.
 
Hockey East announced a new postseason tournament format on Wednesday, June 16. Beginning in 2022, all 11 men's programs will compete in a single-elimination postseason tournament for the Lamoriello Trophy. The Hockey East Men's Tournament will return to an all-in format after a two-year departure. Seeds six, seven, and eight will host seeds 11, 10, and nine, respectively, in the Opening Round set for Wednesday, March 9, 2022. After a reseeding, the top three seeds will host the winners of the Opening Round while the four seed will host the five seed in the Quarterfinals on Saturday, March 12. For the first time since 2019, the Hockey East Men's Championship Semifinals and Final will return to the TD Garden in Boston on March 18-19, 2022. 
 
Season ticket renewals and new season ticket sales will begin on Tuesday, June 22. Season ticket holders from the last ticketed season (2019-20) will receive an email from UMass Athletics with instructions on how to renew their 2019-20 seat location. Fans who have already placed a $50 per-seat deposit for new season tickets for 2021-22 will be granted seat selection access prior to all new season ticket purchasers on or after the June 22 launch. Pricing for adult season tickets start at $238, just $14 per game, with discounted rates available for current and retired UMass Amherst Faculty/Staff members, senior citizens (65 & older), youth (12 & under) and young UMass Amherst alumni (class of 2017-2021).
