McTear received the 60th All-American award in UMass field hockey history
BROCKPORT, N.Y. – University of Massachusetts senior midfielder Georgie McTear has been named a Second Team All-American by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA), the organization announced during its awards show Tuesday night. It is the 60th All-American honor received by a Minutewoman in program history and first since Sarah Hawkshaw (second team) and Melanie Kreusch (third team) were tabbed in 2017.
The recognition concludes a decorated Spring 2021 season for McTear, as she was previously named NFHCA Northeast All-Region First Team, the Atlantic 10 Conference Offensive Player of the Year, A-10 All-Conference First Team and All-Academic Team.
She produced a league-leading seven goals and 17 points, along with a team-best three assists, even in missing one of Massachusetts' 11 matches last Spring. McTear is consistently on the field for 50-plus minutes per game, serving as a fierce competitor all over the pitch and a primary striker on attack penalty corners. Prior to the Spring 2021 season, the Portsmouth, England native was elected by her teammates as a co-captain.
McTear, who will return to UMass in Fall 2021, has earned NFHCA All-Region accolades each year since 2017, making her the first Minutewoman with four consecutive All-Region nods since Sarah Hawkshaw from 2014-17.
