UMass Hockey's Gicewicz Inks AHL Deal With Rockford

The 2020-21 leading goal scorer for the Minutemen has signed with the Chicago Blackhawks’ AHL affiliate through 2022-23.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts redshirt senior forward Carson Gicewicz has signed an AHL contract with the Rockford IceHogs, American Hockey League Affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks, the organization announced on Thursday. Gicewicz led the Minutemen with 17 goals in 2020-21 and helped win its first Hockey East Tournament Championship and NCAA Championship.
"One year just wasn't enough time to spend at UMass," said Gicewicz. "Thank you to the fans, coaches, and TEAMMATES for making this one year unforgettable. We're champions."
The Orchard Park, New York, native logged 24 points on 17 goals and seven assists over 28 games in a UMass uniform, contributing five power-play goals, one shorthanded goal and two game winners with a +8 rating. The two-time Hockey East Player of the Week propelled UMass to its second straight Frozen Four with four goals in the NCAA East Regional, including a hat trick vs Bemidji State in the Regional Championship game and earned a spot on the All-Region Team. His 17 goals were good for fourth in the nation, while he tied for fifth nationally in goals per-game at .61.
Over five seasons of college hockey between St. Lawrence and UMass, Gicewicz appeared in 129 career games and logged 78 points on 38 goals and 40 assists. He served as team captain for the Saints from 2018 to 2020 and was a two-time ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team honoree.
