UMass Track & Field Completes Day One Of Multi Meet

Kopec sits second in the women’s standings, Tarantino sixth for the men.
AMHERST, Mass. – Day one of the UMass track & field multi meet is in the books with the conclusion of the two-day competition coming tomorrow, April 14. In heptathlon, Kira Kopec leads the Minutewomen in second in the team standings with 3,033 points, while Matthew Tarantino, the lone Minuteman in action, is sixth in decathlon through five events with a score of 3,046 points.

In 100 meter hurdles to open the day, Lillian Kirry placed second in 14.58 seconds for 898 points and Kira Kopec was third with a time of 14.95 seconds, good for 848 points. Kopec won shot put with a toss of 41' 2.5" for 698 points, while Madison Witt claimed fifth (32' 9.5", 529 points).

Kirry was victorious in 200 meter dash, crossing the finish in 25.35 seconds for 855 points, followed in second by Kopec with a time of 25.73, good for 821 points.

In high jump, Kopec cleared 5' 0.5", good for sixth (666 points), while Madidson Witt was eighth (4' 7.75", 529 points).

In decathlon, Matthew Tarantino was second in long jump (20' 10", 664 points) third in high jump (5' 9.75", 602), sixth in shot put (34' 7½", 519 points), seventh in 400 meter dash (54.68, 612 points) and eighth in 100 meter dash (12.01, 649 points).

Action will resume tomorrow, April 14, at 9:45 a.m. with decathlon 110 meter hurdles at the UMass Track & Field Complex.
