Ang, McTear and Rossbach collect accolades following successful weekend

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference announced University of Massachusetts field hockey senior midfielder Georgie McTear, sophomore defender Josie Rossbach and freshman forward Josephine Ang as the league's weekly award winners for offensive player of the week, defensive player of the week and rookie of the week, respectively, on Tuesday. Ang, McTear and Rossbach were instrumental in the team's weekend sweep of Northeastern, 2-1, and Vermont, 3-1.

McTear head three points on the weekend which included the eventual game-winning goal at Northeastern on a penalty stroke. She added her first assist of the season during the win over the Catamounts when she helped Jess Beech put the squad ahead by two goals early in the second quarter. For Beech's goal against Vermont, McTear restarted play outside the Vermont circle with a clean pass to Beech at the top of the circle for Beech's uncontested shot into the right side of the goal.

Rossbach was the organizational centerpiece for the UMass defense as the Minutewomen collected two victories on the weekend and also had one assist on the weekend during a penalty corner play at Northeastern. For her assist - her first collegiate point - Rossbach blocked off the Northeastern defense in front of the cage and directed a pass to Ang for Ang's tally against the Huskies. Rossbach played all 120 minutes on the weekend in the center of the UMass defense, which only allowed seven on-target shots across both games. She proved instrumental in Massachusetts limiting its foes to a combined one goal on six total penalty corners, and had a blocked shot on Northeastern's only corner attempt.

Ang scored twice, including the game-winner against Vermont. She battled for her first collegiate tally at Northeastern on a blocked corner when she corralled a pass from Rossbach, as Rossbach was tackled to the turf, and slammed home the goal for the 2-0 UMass lead in the 47th minute. Ang earned her second goal in as many games on a similar corner play against Vermont. Against the Catamounts, Ang settled in near the right post and took control of a rebounded ball before depositing it into the back of the cage.

UMass continues its season with a pair of home games at the Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex. The Minutewomen host Maine on Friday., March 12 at 1 p.m. before UMass Lowell visits on Sunday for a Noon contest.
