Minutewomen collect third national award in string of academic accolades

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – University of Massachusetts field hockey has earned the Division I National Academic Team Award, announced Monday by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). As a team, Massachusetts tallied a 3.79 team grade point average during Fall 2020, narrowly missing a three-way tie for top-five in the nation.

Monday's announcement is the latest of three classroom honors this month for the program, following the NFHCA's unveiling of the National Academic Squad (March 18) and Scholars of Distinction (March 26).

During an unprecedented Fall 2020 semester, the Minutewomen still managed remarkable individual performances hitting the books. Along with the upper-tier team GPA, every student-athlete on the team finished with a cumulative mark above 3.5 and five had perfect 4.0 averages.

UMass continues Atlantic 10 Conference play on Saturday, April 3 with a 4 p.m. rematch at Lock Haven.
