Women's Basketball Tops Providence, 80-62

Taylor registers season best 26 points, while Ngalakulondi logs double-double to lead the Minutewomen.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – University of Massachusetts improves its record to 5-0 after defeating Providence College, 80-62, on Tuesday evening at Alumni Hall, marking the best start for UMass since the 2006-07 season.
The win also marks the first for the Minutewomen over the Friars since the 2004-05 season, ending a six-game skid.
Sydney Taylor led the UMass effort, notching a season best 26 points. The sophomore went 10-for-22 (.455) from the field, knocking down three from behind the arc. Angelique Ngalakulondi recorded the second double-double of her career, scoring 17 points and grabbing 11 boards, while Makennah White tied her career-high of 12 points. Ber'Nyah Mayo also reached double figures, tallying 10 points.
Sam Breen came down with 11 rebounds and was two points shy of her fourth double-double of the season.
UMass jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the first quarter, before Providence went on a 12-0 run to take the lead. The Minutewomen scored six more, but the Friars extended their lead 20-12 at the end of the quarter.
Massachusetts climbed back with Taylor scoring 11 of the team's 23 points in the second. Ngalakulondi added two points to close the gap, 33-34, and sank two from the charity stripe to push the Mintuewomen ahead 35-34 heading into halftime.
The Minutewomen kept the momentum going in the third and fourth quarters, holding on the lead for the remainder of the contest. In the third, UMass made a 14-0 run to make it 49-36 and continued to increase their lead to 25-points to close out the fourth quarter.
UMass heads to Estero, Fla., for the Gulf Coast Showcase, on Friday, November 26, through Sunday, November 28, taking on South Dakota State on Friday at 11 a.m.
