Women’s Soccer Scores Twice In Second Half In 2-1 Win At Fordham

Chandler Pedolzky assisted on both of the UMass goals to give her eight assists on the year.
BRONX, N.Y. – Chandler Pedolzky dished out two assists as the University of Massachusetts women's soccer team came away with a 2-1 victory on the road at Fordham on Sunday afternoon. The Minutewomen (9-4-3 Overall, 5-2-1 Atlantic 10) put home both goals in the second half on their way to their fifth win in league play.
Both teams got off to a slow start offensively with the first shot for either side coming on a Pedolzky attempt in the 22nd-minute. Fordham got the first opportunity on goal of the afternoon in the 24th-minute as Jenna Devine got off a shot at the near post that was covered up for save by Megan Olszewski.
Karina Groff had an early chance at opening the scoring in the second half with a shot that grazed the post in the 46th-minute before scoring the game's first goal eight minutes later. Pedolzky played Groff forward following a Fordham giveaway down the right side for a chip over the Fordham keeper and into goal for Groff's fourth of the year.
Pedolzky assisted once again in the 79th-minute, this time finding Olivia Gouldsbury down the same right side for a shot around the keeper and into goal to put UMass ahead 2-0. Pedolzky's second assist of the game and fourth in the last two games puts her at eight for the year.
Fordham answered back in the 80th-minute by converting on their fourth shot on target of the day as Milan Bornstein brought the home team within a goal. The Rams looked for the equalizer in the final moments of the game with a pair of shots on goal that were both saved by UMass' Bella Mendoza.
The Minutewomen return home on Thursday, Oct. 21 for their final regular season game at Rudd Field against St. Bonaventure at 3 p.m.
