Lamond Scores Twice As Women’s Soccer Defeats Richmond, 2-1

AMHERST, Mass. – Ashley Lamond put home two goals as the University of Massachusetts women's soccer team picked up a 2-1 win over Richmond on Thursday afternoon at Rudd Field. The Minutewomen (8-4-3 Overall, 4-2-1 Atlantic 10) fell behind early but quickly answered back with a goal of their own on the way to outshooting Richmond 18-5 on the day.

The Spiders tallied the first goal of the day in the opening moments as TJ Anderson found the back of the net in the 4th-minute after a cross by Molly Wierman bounced around in the box for the eventual goal. Richmond was held to just one more shot in the first 45 minutes.

Lamond and the Minutewomen quickly answered just over a minute later in the fifth-minute as Chandler Pedolzky made a run down the right side before reversing course and sending in a left-footed cross. Lamond headed the ball down and into the right side of goal to tie it at 1-1.

UMass attempted 11 of its 18 shots in the second half as they pushed for the game-winning goal. Lamond and Pedolzky led the way with four shots each while Lindsay Wolf added three shot attempts for the Minutewomen.

Lamond nearly got her second goal in the 61st-minute on a right-footed blast from just inside the penalty area that hit the crossbar before breaking through once again in the 64th-minute to put UMass ahead 2-1 on her team-leading fifth goal of the season. Pedolzky connected with Lamond for the second time on the day, this time on a right-footed cross to the far post to set up a Lamond shot that hit the bottom of the crossbar and bounced in.

Bella Mendoza logged 45 minutes in goal in the second half for the Minutewomen and picked up a save in the 81st-minute, a diving effort to her right to turn away a powerful shot from range sent on target by Richmond's Sara Moushegian.

The Minutewomen hit the road for their next match when they head to the Bronx to take on Fordham on Sunday at 1 p.m.
