Danielle Sanderlin Joins UMass Women’s Hoops

Canisius transfer and All-MAAC selection adds to front court depth for Minutewomen
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts women's basketball and head coach Tory Verdi announced on Tuesday the addition of 6-foot forward Danielle Sanderlin to the program. Sanderlin, a native of Williamstown, New Jersey, joins the Minutewomen as a transfer from Canisius College where she appeared in 79 games from 2017-20.
Under NCAA transfer rules, Sanderlin may practice with the Minutewomen when normal on-campus activities resume. She will have one year of playing eligibility at UMass in 2021-22.
"What intrigues me most about Danielle Sanderlin is her competitive spirit," said Verdi. "She is highly motivated with a skill set that will give us versatility in the front court. She has a scorer's mentality and attacks the boards fearlessly. She is a great addition to our program."
Sanderlin averaged 13.5 points and 7.6 rebounds per game as a junior in 2019-20, being named to the All-MAAC Third Team. She started 29 of 30 games, including all 20 in MAAC play, and contributed six double-double performances on the year. In conference games, Sanderlin averaged 15.8 points and 8.3 boards per contest. She poured in a career-high 30 points in a Feb. 15, 2020 game at Saint Peter's–the first 30-point effort by a Golden Griffin since 2002-03.
As a freshman in 2017-18, Sanderlin earned placement on the MAAC All-Rookie Team.
Prior to Canisius, Sanderlin had a decorated high school career at Gloucester Catholic in New Jersey, where Sanderlin was named MVP and South Jersey Player of the Year in 2017. She also was tabbed All-South Jersey, All-Diamond League and SJT All-Area Team from 2014-17.
Academically, Sanderlin intends to pursue communication at UMass.
