Track & Field Lands Five On A-10 Academic All-Conference Teams

Three Minutewomen and two Minutemen were honored for their academic and athletic accomplishments this indoor season.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts track and field landed five individuals on the 2020 Atlantic 10 Conference Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Academic All-Conference, which were revealed on Friday. On the women's side, redshirt senior Emilie Cowan, senior Jada Harris and senior Lindsay Witt were all honored, while redshirt senior Connor Ross and senior Nicholas Santos represented the Minutemen on the men's squad.
To be nominated, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale). The teams were selected through voting conducted by the league's Sports Information Directors.Â

Cowan, who is working towards a master's degree in public policy, capped off an undefeated career in the 500 meter dash at the 2020 Indoor A-10 Championships, winning her fourth career gold medal in the event and one of UMass' five gold medals at the meet. She posted a time of 1 minute, 13.18 seconds in the 500m and took fourth in 200 meter dash (25.04), scoring 15 points individually to help the Minutewomen claim the A-10 team title, while racing on UMass' fifth-place 4x400 meter relay, as well. Cowan then capped her final indoor campaign by winning an ECAC title in 500 meter dash, running 1:11.68 seconds to rank eighth in the world for 500 meters in 2020, the only collegian in the top-10.

Harris, a double major in Social Thought & Political Economy and Communication was named the women's Most Outstanding Field Performer at the Atlantic 10 Championships after totaling 28 individual points to help the Minutewomen to the team title. She won two gold medals with A-10 titles in high jump (5'8") and 60 meter hurdles, matching the meet record with a winning time of 8.45 seconds, and also took silver medal in long jump, breaking a 34-year old school record in long jump, leaping 19 feet 3.5 inches. The 2019 honorable mention USTFCCCA All-American in high jump also earned an ECAC silver medal in the event in her final meet of the 2020 indoor season.

Witt, a microbiology major, won her first career Atlantic 10 title at the 2020 A-10 Indoor Championships, running 24.72 seconds out of the slow heat to gold in the 200 meter dash. The senior also provided additional points towards UMass' team title-winning total, taking sixth in 60 meter dash (7.71) and leading off the Minutewomen's fifth-place 4x400 meter relay (3:52.97). In prelims at A-10's, Witt broke her own school record in 60 meter dash at 7.65 seconds and also set two more new top-five all-time marks in the UMass record book in 2020 as her 200m PR (24.45) ranks second all-time and her 400m PR (56.13) ranks third all-time.

Ross, who is earning his master's degree in sport management, ran on UMass' 4x800 meter relay that took home silver at the 2020 indoor Atlantic 10 Championships with a time of 7 minutes, 44.88 seconds. He also scored in 1,000m at A-10's with a time of 2:30.69, which was good for fifth.

Santos, a biochemistry and molecular biology major, was a part of both of the Minutemen's medal winning relays at A-10's. He raced with UMass' distance medley relay squad that combined to run 10 minutes, 16.72 seconds to third and also competed with the UMass 4x800 that earned silver with a time of 7 minutes, 44.88 seconds.
